Laurie Chrzanowski did something truly special. She named her new dog after the doctor who saved her life - twice!

In a heartfelt letter, Laurie thanked BSA Harrington Cancer Center Oncologist/ Hematologist Andrew Mak, MD, for his support. "Your reassuring presence and genuine concern provided immense comfort and hope. Your ability to blend professionalism with empathy is truly remarkable and made all the difference in my journey toward healing."

Upon initial diagnosis, Dr. Mak recalls Laurie being understandably guarded.

"As I explained the journey ahead and assured her of the exceptional care she’d receive, her walls began to fall," said Dr. Mak. "When her final scan revealed a great response, we were all overjoyed. But a recent follow-up uncovered a new, unrelated issue. Thanks to the trust we’d built, we were able to save her life once again."

Now, Mak (the dog) is a beloved member of Laurie's family. "Every time I call Mak, I am reminded of your extraordinary care and the second chance at life you gave me," she wrote to Dr. Mak.

"When Laurie and her sister brought in her new dog that was named after me, I was astonished and super grateful," he added. "It shows that all actions, no matter how big or small, can change someone's life."
